This past weekend, I attended the wedding of two of my closest friends, Nate Silverstein and Katie Malone at Capitale in New York City. The beautiful bride is a huge Broadway fan, so their Best Man, Casey Shane, wrote and performed a special rendition of ‘Hamilton‘ to tell the story of their relationship in truly epic fashion for his best man's speech.
Backed up by the band, the crowd immediately starts cheering when they hear that familiar beloved opening, and are blown away when Shane delivers his own perfectly rhymed and timed version.
“I knew he was going to do something because he asked me to get in touch with the band leader, but I didn't know what it was going to say,” says the groom who was in on the surprise performance. “I knew Katie would love it, which is why I gave him my approval. Her face was priceless.”
“When I heard the music, I thought ‘Aww he’s singing Hamilton because he knows I like it.' But as soon as he started singing and it wasn’t the Broadway lyrics, OMG, HE REWROTE HAMILTON ABOUT US!” exclaims the bride. “When I realized what was happening, I wondered if Nate knew Casey would do this or if he was equally surprised. I was so happy, excited and speechless. I tried to stay present in the moment and take it all in.”
