This couple’s laid-back, playful and easygoing demeanor has us grinning ear to ear. For Melayna and Dan, the connection they both share, captured by Nicole Amanda Photography, was instantaneous. “We both knew pretty early on that we were the real deal. Something between us just clicked right away and it was just pure love,” this ecstatic, sporty couple gushes. This engagement session at Pinhey’s Point in Ontario is just one of many places that hold warm memories for this beautiful couple. Sporting their favorite hockey jerseys and flirting on everything from haystacks to fences, this locale is a dreamy, romantic playground.
The Love Story
If the connection with your soul mate is truly meant-to-be, those magical sparks can make any ordinary place seem romantic. “We met on November 28, 2009 at the ATM machine in Heart and Crown in downtown Ottawa,” Melayna reminisces. “The next day after we met, I had invited him over to watch football with me, which I pretended to know more about than I did. I was really nervous and excited to see him again. I remember how easy it was just hanging out with him and how he made me instantly feel special and comfortable.”
The best love is the kind that flows easily and effortlessly, and Melayna certainly found that quality in Dan. “It just felt so natural and like we’d known each other for years,” the new bride explains. “We’d skirt around the subject of marriage and kids a lot in conversations. He got on great with my friends as did I with his, and lots of people mentioned that even though we’d started dating, I was still myself. I hadn’t changed and that was great to know. I could fully be myself around him and he accepted all my goofiness, stress and craziness. One day, he finally mentioned marriage specifically in reference to us and I just thought ‘Yup, he’s my future husband.'”
Three-and-a-half years later, after going out to a birthday dinner for Melayna, Dan began to mysteriously drive into the country. “I thought that he had gotten me a puppy and it was waiting for us at the farm,” Melayna recalls. “He ended up driving us to Pinhey’s Point where we liked to go walking around in the summer. He seemed a little on edge, but as we pulled up there was another van there and I thought ‘Oh, we’re meeting someone here with a puppy!’ He walked me down to the water’s edge and when he stopped I knew there was no puppy … it was something better. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I of course said yes!” Melayna was so ecstatic and overwhelmed with happiness as her hope for a puppy became old news and was replaced by her anticipation of marrying the love of her life. “I remember as he took my hands my heart was pounding. When he got down on one knee, I couldn’t say yes fast enough.”
