Whimsical Engagement Session in San Diego’s North Park

A colorful and creative engagement shoot in San Diego's North Park neighborhood.

Kimmy and Crystal‘s colorful and creative North Park wander in central San Diego — the same neighborhood they had their first date in — had them donning two short adorable white dresses, evoking what lay ahead for their big day.

After three weeks of dating, Crystal knew that it was getting serious. “We hadn't officially labeled our relationship yet. When my friends asked if I wanted her to be my girlfriend, I hesitated. I had the sudden realization that if I said yes to making the relationship official, there was a 99.9999% chance I would never be single again. I was scared, excited, happy, and nervous,” she says.

Sure enough, after three years together, the couple found themselves shopping for engagement rings at Brilliant Earth. “My engagement ring was the result of a lot of research,” says Kimmy. “I knew I wanted a round cut Moissanite solitaire ring with a platinum band, and we decided to do lab-grown Moissanite when we went to Brilliant Earth.”

“My engagement ring was an impulse buy,” says Crystal. “As we were browsing I saw a beautiful gold ring with white gold prongs that set the baguette cut Moissanite gemstone. After choosing the ring, the jeweler let us know it was the same ring Kristen Stewart had in Happiest Season. It's a queer ring.”

For the proposal, Crystal had a friend sneak into their apartment while they were at dinner and decorate it with twinkle lights, photos of them together, and a burlap banner that said “Will you marry me” above their dining table topped with flowers and a glass cloche with the ring in it. “Real Disney-princess shit,” laughs Crystal. Coming through the door, “All My Life” by K-Ci & JoJo started blasting on their home speaker and Kimmy immediately burst into tears. “She was screaming ‘YES' and I was like “Wait, I haven't even gotten on one knee yet!”

For their engagement shoot, they kicked off with the cutest coffee date at Holy Matcha, followed by a murals and magic wander in the neighborhood, and finally wrapped at the spot they had their first date. Pure joy and happiness exudes from these photos!
