A Tiki-Themed Post-Wedding Backyard Celebration

The countdown to summer is officially on with Samara and Sophie’s post-wedding celebration in British Columbia, Canada that will have you dreaming of warm and sunny days! While this second-celebration of their marriage wasn’t always intended, it ended up being exactly what they never knew they wanted.

The paths of these two crossed in England after meeting on a dating app years after Samara made the move from her home in Canada. Coffee led to pizza which led to more conversations and eventually the two moving in together.

“I knew it was a good thing as I couldn’t even eat my pizza, I was talking so much and just buzzing with excitement,” shares Samara. “We officially moved in together six months later and I took Sophie to Canada to meet the family in 2019. She knew after that that she wanted to propose on our second dating anniversary.”

Over an at-home candlelit dinner, Sophie officially asked Samara to marry her.

They chose to have a September wedding in England, but the many travel restrictions at the time didn’t allow for the majority of Samara’s family to attend.

Making lemonade out of lemons, the two decided they were going to host a second-wedding reception in Canada. Almost a year later they headed to Samara’s family home for a sweet summer backyard soiree!

“I love my brother’s home. It’s where we grew up and now where my brother and his family live with my parents in an attached house,” states Samara. “We loved the idea of being outside in the nice weather and making the most of their amazing backyard.”

Social Calendar Events assisted the couple in achieving the tropical-inspired fete they desired. “With pops of color at every turn, this wedding celebration party features bright and colorful balloons, tropical florals, a Tiki bar with freshly shaken cocktails, a huge charcuterie spread, a taco bar AND a slider station,” mentions their photographer, Eunice Kwok of Chuunice Photography.

Elaborating on the details, Samara expresses “Palm and monstera leaves, several balloon arches, paper grass umbrellas, tiki signs at the bar and lots of twinkling lights and Edison bulbs dotted around the tent and yard. We had several different seating areas with nice garden furniture so people could sit and chat, while under the tent, the dance floor was waiting!”

In addition to the bold decor, Samara and Sophie each wore a colorful dress to match the party vibes. Be they posing next to each other to cut into their dessert of choice — fresh baked pie — or be they dancing beneath the summer breeze, the pure bliss and joy on their faces really says it all!
