A Punta de Mita Destination Wedding Full of Love, Style, and Disco Flair

Set against the lush backdrop of The W Punta de Mita, Martin and Christian’s destination wedding blended heartfelt moments, modern fashion, and a hint of disco magic.

When it comes to destination weddings, it doesn’t get more magical than Martin and Christian’s beach disco chic celebration at The W Hotel Punta de Mita. With oceanfront vows, custom fashion moments, and a surprise fireworks show, their wedding was a harmonious blend of heartfelt, stylish, and unforgettable.

Martin and Christian’s love story began Memorial Day weekend in 2021. Martin had recently relocated to Palm Springs and ended up living down the street from their mutual friend, Joe. During a joint weekend party at Joe’s home, Martin noticed a tall, handsome guest — Christian — wearing the exact same flamingo-print speedo he had just bought. That fashion coincidence sparked their first conversation, and by the end of the weekend, sparks were flying. Not a day has gone by since without a call or text.

A few years later, Martin proposed to Christian during a beach walk in Puerto Vallarta. “While Christian was handing the photographer his cell phone for the photo, Martin got down on one knee so when Christian turned back around, he was completely surprised,” they recalled. “He said yes, and we got a wonderful photo of the moment.”

Hosting a wedding in another country wasn’t without its challenges. “We’ve never lived in Mexico, so we had to learn a lot of new things about how everything is done there,” they said. “It was so helpful having our wedding planner because she knew everything we needed to think about. Also, after last year’s election, we weren’t sure how travel or immigration changes might affect us, so that’s one of the reasons we planned the wedding so soon after getting engaged.”

The couple was instantly captivated by The W Hotel Punta de Mita’s lush scenery and vibrant atmosphere.

“The W reflects both of our styles, and it became clear this was the perfect venue for us during our first site visit,” they explained. “As soon as we entered the lush landscape beyond the large W sign, we felt like we were instantly transported into a tropical paradise.”

Their ceremony took place right on the beach under two palm trees, with the golden sun reflecting over the ocean. “The ocean is one of our favorite places and also where we got engaged, so it made perfect sense,” they said.

Rather than over-decorating the already scenic location, they let nature shine. “Because the location on the beach was so magical, we decided to keep our decorations minimal and let the tropical surroundings serve as the backdrop,” they shared. Their wedding planner lined the aisle with green monstera palm leaves, setting the tone for their chic, organic style.

One incredibly moving moment came when guests were asked to open sealed note cards during the ceremony. “Each person read a personal message from us telling them how much they meant to us and their support of our marriage,” Martin and Christian said. “Let’s just say there wasn’t a dry eye there!”

Fashion was front and center during the wedding weekend. For welcome drinks, the couple wore custom white linen suits. On the big day, they turned heads in matching hunter green Indochino suits — Christian in a double-breasted look and Martin in single-breasted — with white shirts and bold printed loafers.

Later, they changed into disco-inspired looks: satin sequin shirts, with Martin in pleated white trousers and Christian in sleek black leather pants. “We wanted our looks to feel personal and fun,” they explained.

Held on a cozy sandy area just off the ocean, their reception was a dreamy combination of modern elegance and disco flair. “We had arrangements with green ferns, palm leaves, and monstera leaves,” they said. “There were other arrangements with white phalaenopsis and dendrobium orchids. Candles and mini disco balls were strategically placed around each table.”

Martin and Christian kicked off their reception with a first dance to “Come Away with Me” by Norah Jones. They each shared a special dance with their mothers to songs they had personally recorded for them. Martin danced to “What A Wonderful World” with his mother and Christian to “Yellow” with his.

A giant structure hung with disco balls and lantern lights framed the dance floor. Guests were welcomed with tequila shots and later dined on a delicious family-style meal of corn chowder, grilled meats and seafood, fresh vegetables, and salads.

The sweet finale included a white chocolate dulce de leche cake and an ice cream and sorbet truck for guests to enjoy.
