We're sharing key ChatGPT prompts to help you brainstorm, draft, and personalize heartfelt wedding vows that feel authentic, modern, and completely your own.
ChatGPT is here to stay and as someone who works in publishing, I certainly have thoughts on it, but I do think that AI can be a useful tool for aspects of wedding planning, including writing your vows.
Now, before you come at me with proverbial pitchforks, let me explain …
The key word being tool … I do feel that ChatGPT is a terrific tool for helping sort and organize your thoughts/feelings and give you a starting point for writing your vows. How do you put a lifetime of love, inside jokes, and shared dreams into a few meaningful minutes? Obviously, we're not all wordsmiths, and then saying what you wrote, out loud, in front of a hundred people? That's pressure! So if you ask me, using the modern resources to help guide is completely appropriate, as long as you're not letting it do all the work.
While AI can offer structure and inspiration, the heart of your vows still needs to come from you. So to help you get there, we put together seven ChatGPT prompts that will help you brainstorm, reflect, and organize all the emotion swirling in your head.
Think of these prompts as a creative starting point, not a final draft. Use them to spark ideas, then edit, refine, and infuse your own voice, quirks, and love story. That’s how you end up with vows that feel authentic, personal, and unmistakably yours.
1. The “Love Story Audit” Prompt
“Help me write my vows by asking me a series of thoughtful questions about our relationship — how we met, what I love most about my partner, our challenges, our inside jokes, and the promises I genuinely want to make. After I answer your questions, turn my answers into heartfelt, personalized vows.”
2. The “Promise-Focused” Prompt
“I want vows centered around meaningful promises that reflect our relationship values. Ask me about what we’ve learned, what we want to build, how we support each other, and what matters most in our partnership. Then craft vows that turn those values into powerful commitments.”
3. The “Tears and Laughs” Prompt
“Create a set of vows that balance humor and sentimentality. Ask me about sweet memories, funny quirks, and the moments that define our connection. Then write vows that make people both laugh and cry.”
4. The “Future Vision” Prompt
“Help me write vows based on the future we’re building together. Ask me about the life we envision — our home, our traditions, how we’ll support each other over time — and turn my answers into promises that speak to our shared dreams.”
5. The “Why I Choose You” Prompt
“Guide me through writing vows by asking what makes my partner extraordinary, why I choose them every day, and how they’ve changed my life. Use my answers to create vows centered on gratitude and admiration.”
6. The “Cultural, Spiritual, or Personal Values” Prompt
“Help me write vows that reflect our shared values — whether cultural, spiritual, or simply deeply personal. Ask questions about rituals, meaning, and what ‘marriage’ symbolizes to us, then shape vows that honor those beliefs.”
7. The “Strength Through Challenges” Prompt
“Ask me about challenges we’ve faced as a couple, what we learned from them, and how they strengthened our relationship. Then craft vows that honor our resilience, growth, and commitment moving forward.”
