Michelle knew she wanted to create an over-the-top styled expecting session to celebrate her son, Nolan Wolfe, but not only because it’s engrained in her as a wedding planner to make every moment beautiful.
“I was not one of those little girls who dreamt of my wedding day, and had baby names picked out by the time I was in college. My life goals were always career-oriented,” says Michelle, who owns Michelle Elaine Weddings. But after she and her husband John got married, she found herself fielding questions, even from strangers, about when they were going to start a family. “What most people don’t know is that I grew up in a very broken and tumultuous home. I truthfully didn’t want to have children because of the fear in repeating the cycle. Yes, I had a loving husband and we have this beautiful love story but I always felt as though it was too good to be true or that I perhaps didn’t deserve what we have.”
It wasn’t until her uncle, who was a father figure in her life, became ill. “Watching him battle every day and seeing how precious life truly is started to change the way I was looking at my own life. Most people assume that we had a ‘quarantine baby’ or that it was the fact that I was turning 35, but the truth is that I’d decided it was time to stop being afraid and holding myself back from what could be the most amazing gift to our lives. We were extremely lucky to have gotten pregnant fairly quickly and the last conversation I ever had with my uncle was us telling him that I was pregnant.”
At 32 weeks, she collaborated with Kylee Yee Photo and Designs by Ahn to create an editorial-worthy expecting shoot to celebrate their impending arrival, starting with a boudoir studio shoot followed by a chic fashion look. Even the couple’s pup Chip (who is slowly getting used to his big brother role!) made a cameo! “The biggest surprise is how you just fall into being parents. Not to discount how insanely difficult it is, but it’s kind of amazing to just be like ‘okay, we’re mommy and daddy now’ and you’re just ready for it. There are no words to explain the feeling, and it is a surprise to me because I just never thought I’d be here, and it’s really just amazing.”
