Anything But Gray Events created an evening amongst the stars for guests at Robyn and Sven's celestial-themed wedding.
Robyn and Sven’s wedding in California was a celebration of love that defied convention, blending celestial themes with deeply personal touches. Planned by Anything But Gray Events, this cosmic affair was packed with intricate details and stunning design choices.
As a couple that embraces the unconventional, Robyn and Sven’s love story began with a twist—Robyn proposed to Sven on the rooftop of the Griffith Observatory. The astronomical connection continued into their wedding day, set in the serene surroundings of Coto de Caza.
“We wanted somewhere that was scenic and quiet,” Robyn shared. “Coto de Caza was the perfect spot—it had a grand feel driving through the gated community, and the complimentary valet was a nice touch for our out-of-town guests.”
The couple’s outdoor ceremony was intimate, with the officiant weaving unique and meaningful features while still honoring Robyn’s Chinese heritage, too. One of the most memorable moments was their tea blending ceremony, symbolizing the merging of their lives. “Sven’s ingredients were cinnamon and orange, representing his spicy and playful nature, while mine were honey and Golden Camellia, for sweetness and uniqueness,” Robyn explained. The authentic nature of their ceremony set the tone for the reception that followed.
From lush floral arrangements in blue, white, and gold to a bar decked out with a starry sky, every element of the reception space contributed to a celestial wonderland, featuring Art Deco-inspired details.
“The main wall was lined with gold sequined fabric, with twinkling lights behind it to give the illusion of stars,” the couple described. “The entire floor was wrapped with a cloudy-star scene, and the ceiling was draped with soft golden fabric.” Each guest table featured its own unique floral and light arrangement, while the sweetheart table was framed by custom golden gates, echoing the celestial motif.
The universe imagery seen on the floor wrap was also incorporated into the cake design by Nicole Bakes Cakes, the wrap of the bar, the paper goods, created by Roseville Designs, and the projected lighting imagery.
“While we were floating in the middle of two universes, floral design and tablescapes were incredibly important design concepts that added to the spaces’ overall feel and elegance,” notes their planner Holly Gray of Anything But Gray Events. “And thematic and interactive details like personalized lapel pins, universe-themed cocktails, a tarot card reader, and a vintage phone capturing messages to the couple gave guests celestial Easter eggs to enjoy throughout the evening.”
In line with their theme of connection and fate, Robyn designed the custom enamel pins for their guests. The pins, featuring two cats that fit together to form a full circle, were embellished with cosmic details and gold foil text. “The idea was that you could give one of the pins to your soulmate,” Robyn explains. “It was a nice way to keep the theme of our connection going forward.”
The couple’s fashion choices were just as bold as their decor and details. Robyn wore a soft beige custom satin ballgown, encrusted with embellishments and starry details, paired with a sweeping celestial cape.. Sven matched the celestial theme with a custom dark navy suit, adorned with a paisley pattern and gold accents. His look was completed with an Italian tie and pocket square combo, along with Panda loafers.
With Anything But Gray Events orchestrating the day to perfection, Robyn and Sven’s wedding was a true reflection of their personalities, their love, and their cosmic connection. From the grand entrance to the stunning reception and everything in between, their celestial celebration was one for the ages—bold, dreamy, and utterly unforgettable.
