Hunter and Jordan's Leap Day wedding in Los Angeles, captured by Danforth Neal Photography, was a fusion of Art Nouveau and New Orleans, blending the couple’s mutual love for fine art and craftsmanship with the vibrant culture of the city where they met.
Hunter and Jordan's wedding, beautifully captured by Danforth Neal Photography, comes after seven years together; meeting at Loyala University and sharing a first date at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
“I felt compelled to ask Hunter for a second date before he drove me back to my dorm,” shares Jordan. “Hunter agreed nonchalantly as if it were a given. I loved how comfortable I felt with him– the feeling was mutual. So, there were many more dates highlighted by arts and culture, food and romance, and Hunter's cat, Mr. Jeremiah.”
Their big day took place at The Oviatt, a historic venue that perfectly aligned with their appreciation for art and architectural detail. As Hunter and Jordan described, “Every corner of the space is impressively detailed and meticulously preserved– from the red Italian plaster in the bathroom, the hand painted murals in the lounge, the original working fountain on the event deck, to the marble mantles at the entryway. It's a breathtaking space and building.”
Photographer Todd Danforth reflected on their day, sharing, “Their wildly romantic and ethereal wedding embodied the true essence of spring's warm promise and the excitement of new beginnings. Artfully arranged magnolias, narcissus, irises, lilies, quince and grasses wove together a scene to evoke pure delight and whimsy: a ‘meadow in the sky' inspired by Piet Oudolf.”
The backdrop of the ceremony was designed to resemble a lush forest, with layers of ground plants, mid-height greenery, and tall branches. Jordan’s bouquet, a stunning arrangement of burgundy Vanda orchids and Queen Anne's lace, was tied with a burgundy ribbon, perfectly complementing her ethereal Claire Pettibone Whitney silk gown with a matching French lace cape.
Hunter's ensemble was equally striking, featuring a statement blue velvet floral jacquard tuxedo paired with a silk bow tie. His boutonniere, a unique combination of a Paphiopedilum orchid, blue eryngium, and burgundy hellebores, matched the wedding’s color palette of blues, burgundy, gold, silver, warm whites, and deep greens.
The couple wanted to immerse their guests in a multi-sensory experience, incorporating elements of sound, scent, sight, taste, and touch throughout the day.
In addition to the floral designs by Jean Pascal that added visual beauty and delightful aromas, a live performance by The Bayou Bump New Orleans Jazz Band set the perfect tone and entertained guests. For the reception, Good Gracious Catering curated a menu that celebrated the couple’s favorite flavors, featuring an oyster bar, chicken pot pies (Jordan’s choice), and trout almondine (Hunter’s choice).
The couple's attention to detail extended to the wedding invitations and menus, printed on heavy cotton board. Jordan, a lover of fine paper, hand-typed the name cards using Hunter’s vintage typewriter, while the seating chart and guest book were handmade from Nepalese Lokta paper and tamarind tissue paper.
Following the ceremony which ended with the pair planting a symbolic narcissus bulb with the help of Hunter's twin sister, the guests were treated to an elegant yet eclectic mix of modern and vintage elements at the reception. Gold-rimmed plates, gold flatware, and mirrored sweetheart tables set the tone for a luxurious dining experience. The couple’s history of celebrating together was woven into the dessert choices, which included a croquembouche, pecan pralines, and a Black Forest parfait with glazed cherries—a nod to the cake Hunter baked for Jordan’s 21st birthday.
“The pair prepared for their wedding day together, a lovely moment of intimate togetherness that embodied the connection these two share,” exclaims Danforth.
The thoughtful details and personal touches of this celebration reflected the life Hunter and Jordan have built together, making their Leap Day celebration one that won’t be forgotten.
