This sweet wedding at 501 Union in Brooklyn beautifully blends modern elegance with deeply personal touches, celebrating a love story years in the making.
Some love stories unfold in the most cinematic ways, and for Katherine and Konstantin, their journey to the altar of their Brooklyn wedding began in a French film class at Stony Brook University. Though they started as friends, it wasn’t until their senior year that they went on their first date—one that led to a lifetime of love. Years later, during a trip to upstate New York, Konstantin took Katherine for a hike at Kaaterskill Falls, where he got down on one knee and proposed. Of course, she said yes!
Having built their life together in Brooklyn—where they had their first apartment, adopted their dog Frodo, and made countless memories—it was only fitting for Katherine and Konstantin to tie the knot in the borough that felt most like home. The couple chose 501 Union as their venue, a chic industrial space that provided the perfect setting for their heartfelt ceremony and vibrant reception.
Every detail of their ceremony was thoughtfully planned, reflecting the couple’s personalities and love story. Their beloved dog, Frodo, even played an important role.
“Our favorite wedding day detail is our dog Frodo being able to walk down the aisle as our ring bearer while the harpist played Concerning Hobbits.”
To symbolize their unity, Katherine and Konstantin included a unique sand-pouring ceremony. They poured sand into a custom hourglass etched with their names, creating a timeless keepsake of their special day. Stunning floral arrangements in shades of dusty purple, pink, and cream framed their altar, adding a soft, romantic contrast to the venue’s urban aesthetic.
For their reception, Katherine and Konstantin wanted a warm and inviting atmosphere. Long family-style tables and a sweetheart table set the stage for an intimate dinner. A sleek black-and-white seating chart adorned with florals welcomed guests to their places where they also found a sweet favor – honey placed in a jar that said “meant to bee.” Delicate bud vases, candle votives, and floral centerpieces in shades of purple, pink, and gold added elegance to the tablescape.
“I loved our reception tables with the table settings, florals, and candles. We had some small activities set up for the kids, an assortment of beautiful candle votives, and large foam light sticks for reception dancing.”
In a nod to Katherine’s Chinese heritage, guests signed a red silk cloth in addition to a Jenga guestbook, blending tradition with a fun keepsake. Before cutting into their stunning square three-tier cake adorned with live flowers, Katherine changed into a traditional red Chinese dress—a beautiful way to honor her roots while celebrating their new beginning.
With 90 of their closest friends and family gathered, the day was filled with countless meaningful moments.
“Our favorite wedding day memories include our first look—we both teared up when we first saw each other and couldn’t stop smiling. Hearing our vows was also special, and we loved listening to everyone’s speeches!” shared the pair. “All in all, seeing all our loved ones in one room together and being there for us while we celebrated this milestone was so special.”
