Scotty and Justin’s Dashing Rustic Wedding

Scotty and Justin’s wedding was 10 years in the making, but it was more than worth the wait. After dating for so long, these two couldn’t wait for their walk down the aisle, which they took hand-in-hand. They dressed for the occasion, wearing custom white tuxedo jackets with a black lapel and cufflinks with their initials on them that were a gift from Scotty’s family. With 50 guests in attendance, the dashing grooms exchanged vows and then spent the rest of the night celebrating the beginning of the rest of their lives together. Christy Kendall Photography was there to capture the special moments of Justin and Scotty’s wedding day, which was the perfect blend of rustic and romantic.

The Love Story

When Justin’s brother first introduced him to Scotty, although they didn’t talk much, Justin says he felt like it was love at first sight. They later connected on Mypsace and exchanged random hellos, but some time passed before they decided to finally go on a date. “I remember jumping up and down like a school boy and being thrilled to be going on a date with this guy,” Justin says. “Our first date was simple and amazing — we went to see a movie called ‘P.S. I Love You.’ We just clicked and have always been co compatible with one another. It’s so cool that after that day, we have been inseparable for 10 years now.”

Years later, Justin was getting impatient as all his friends started to walk down the aisle. “Since we met so young, by the time I became a 25-year-old, I was incredibly eager to marry this guy that has become my everything,” Justin says. “I remember thinking to myself, ‘why is he taking so long?’” But Scotty already had a plan in place. For Justin’s birthday, Scotty took him to dinner with their family and afterward they went back to their house for cake and presents. “He asked me to watch a video he had prepared for me for my birthday,” Justin says. “The video featured him as Britney Spears wishing me a happy birthday. It was hilarious!” But as the video continued, it took on a more serious tone. Scotty had changed out of his Britney Spears outfit and into a suit, and he was surrounded by candlelight as their song played in the background. “Instead of speaking in the video, he held up signs saying how much he loves me and our lives together,” Justin says. “The video turned off, and he came over and grabbed my hand and took me in front of the entire family and got down on one knee and proposed.”

The Ceremony

Justin and Scotty looked at several venues before they finally found one that felt like the perfect fit for their relationship. “When we came across the Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga, it was a yes,” Justin says. “It had everything that we could have wanted in our wedding — a lot of great scenery, simplicity and the staff was superb.”

The grooms were married underneath a string of lights with black magic roses surrounding them on the ground. “The ceremony was perfect,” Justin says. “I could not keep still and Scotty didn’t hold back the tears as he was crying as we were walking up together. We just couldn’t wait to marry each other!”

The Party

Justin and Scotty’s vision for their wedding day was rustic romance, which was a perfect fir for their venue. “Since our venue had a lot of great scenery already, we were blessed to have worked with a florist who knew the site and knew what it needed to come to life for a wedding,” Justin says. The tables were cloaked in white and navy with geometric centerpieces and votives. Dinner was served buffet-style and the menu consisted of vegetarian risotto, flat iron steak and sea bass with a lemon beurre blanc with truffle mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. And for dessert, a decadent three-tier cake with gold frosting dripping down the sides served up something sweet. “Our cake was one of our favorite parts,” Justin says. “We had a chocolate cake with layers of chocolate mousse and vanilla custard.”

Memorable Moment

“Our most memorable moment had to be the moment that our DJ introduced us us as Mr. and Mr. Burton,” Justin says. “All of our guests were already on the dance floor in a circle waiting for us to begin our first dance as a married couple. And during our first dance, the DJ released the bubbles from above us as our families joined in at the end of the song with us — it was just a really great moment for us.”
