Sam and Shaun’s Classic Pink and Rose Gold Wedding

Today’s wedding is the definition of classic — a timeless, romantic color palette, elegant details that aren’t overstated and last but certainly not least, a couple who’s crazy in love. Sam and Shaun’s pink and rose gold wedding at Thorner Country Estate in South Africa was everything they dreamed it would be and more. They envisioned a simple, relaxing and fun day, which got off on the right foot as the girls sipped champagne as they got ready and the guys went fishing, and it ended with the newlyweds basking in the bliss of being surrounded by their closest friends and family who showered them with love. The Love Story

After Sam and Shaun first met at a mutual friend’s 21st birthday party, Shaun was adamant about taking Sam out for a date. And even after being turned down several times, Shaun knew there was something special about Sam. “We spent the next few years staying in touch until his persistence paid off, and I finally agreed to go on a date with him,” Sam says. “We fell in love on that first date!”

Years later, Shaun had a question for Sam that he knew she couldn’t say no to. While on a trip to Paternoster just outside of Cape Town, South Africa, Shaun planned a relaxing day of pampering at a spa for Sam before bringing her to the beach. He blindfolded her and led her to the sand, and when she removed the blindfold, she opened her eyes to see Shaun down on one knee surrounded by flowers and photos of them throughout the years. “He had also arranged a photographer to capture the whole proposal,” she says. “I, of course, said yes!”

The Fashion

On her first day of wedding dress shopping, Sam found the one. It was the fifth dress she tried on, a stunning a-line gown with delicate lace appliques and an illusion neckline. “I knew from the moment I put it on that it was the one, and I bought it the same day,” she says. To complement her dress, Sam envisioned a black suit for groom, but Shaun was set on navy. “I have always loved the classic black and white of weddings, so after some convincing, he chose black, which he absolutely loved,” Sam says. “And it looks amazing in the pictures.”

The Party

As Sam and Shaun were planning their wedding day, it became clear they wanted something simple but classic. “We didn't want the stress of planning a huge, extravagant wedding,” Sam says. “We just wanted a fun and memorable wedding where our family and friends could enjoy themselves.” With a classic theme in mind, they settled on a stunning pink and rose gold color palette with plenty of crisp white accents. And although they had a tight budget for flowers, their florist, Desire2Hire, created beautiful, lush floral arrangements that looked elegant when raised on the tables. And the statement piece was saved for the newlyweds' head table, where strands of eucalyptus draped down from the ceiling.

After dinner, Sam and Shaun cut into their white two-tier wedding cake, which was vanilla flavored with chocolate ganache icing. “It was so incredibly delicious and all our guests raved about it,” the bride says. “And instead of having dessert served at the table, we did a sweet table with brown bags for guests to take a sweet-filled favor home.”

Memorable Moment

“Getting ready was such a relaxing and fun time — me with my girls just laughing and getting all pretty, while Shaun and his boys went fishing,” Sam says. “But our favorite moment was late in the evening, standing just outside the venue and watching all our family and friends having the time of their lives.”
