With their three fur babies, Claudia and Veronica are already a family of five, but any day now, they’re anticipating the arrival of their first child, a daughter to be named Ellison. After years of wanting to start a family, the moms-to-be faced a series of struggles that left them feeling as though their dream of become parents was simply out of reach. They first explored adoption, but when that heartbreakingly fell through, they decided to give IVF a go. But that was no easy feat either, as they faced discriminatory doctors before finding one that ultimately helped them get pregnant on the first try. “I think our biggest surprise [in this journey] is some of the extra steps we’ve had to take as a same-sex couple,” Veronica says. “For example, for peace of mind, Claudia will be adopting our baby as soon as she is born. We have had to take extra measures so that our future family never gets torn apart due to the very conservative laws that are still a part of our country.”
To commemorate the arrival of their baby girl, Claudia and Veronica connected with Morgan Miller Photography to capture some breathtakingly beautiful expecting photos at Loose Park in Kansas City. After all the heartbreak these two have faced, they are simply glowing now that their bundle of joy is finally on the way. And when they look back on their journey to parenthood and the moment they first found out they were expecting, they said they were ecstatic and in shock. “We felt a sense of happiness that nothing could take away,” Veronica says. “It made the trials of this journey all worth it!”
