There are mountain wedding venues, and then there’s getting married at 11,500 feet. Arapahoe Basin—affectionately known as A-Basin—is an iconic Colorado ski area that transforms into an unforgettable wedding destination during the summer months.
Located in Summit County and surrounded by the towering peaks of the Continental Divide, A-Basin’s primary wedding venue is Black Mountain Lodge, a mid-mountain retreat that guests reach primarily via the Black Mountain Express chairlift. Yes, your guests actually get to ride a chairlift to the wedding.
Outside, the lodge’s expansive deck overlooks mountain peaks and fields of summer wildflowers, creating a naturally dramatic setting for ceremonies and cocktail hour. Inside, vaulted ceilings, timber and stone architectural details and floor-to-ceiling windows bring the alpine setting into the reception space. The flexible floor plan can accommodate dinner and dancing for up to 200 guests, allowing couples to host their ceremony and reception in one location.
Wedding packages make the logistics of an on-mountain celebration surprisingly streamlined. Couples receive private use of the Black Mountain Express chairlift during their five-hour event, along with support from an event manager and day-of coordinator. Ceremony chairs, reception tables and chairs, linens, table settings, catering and event staff are also included.
Full weddings are offered seasonally, typically from the last weekend of June through mid-September, when the snowy ski terrain gives way to green mountainsides and wildflowers. Because of the short season and distinctive setting, A-Basin recommends reaching out early; wedding dates can book one to two years in advance.
For couples dreaming of a quintessential Colorado wedding—with a little adventure built right into the guest experience—it’s difficult to imagine a more memorable way to say “I do.”
