We think transgender visibility and beauty should be celebrated every day, but it’s all the more meaningful to truly celebrate your identity on your wedding day.
Create a romantic and joyful atmosphere at your wedding by weaving the transgender pride flag into your décor, or using its soft blue, pink and white colors as your inspiration.
HISTORY OF THE TRANSGENDER PRIDE FLAG
The transgender pride flag was designed in 1999 by Monica Helms, a trans woman. Helms is a U.S. Naval veteran advocate for trans servicemembers. Her flag was first flown in 2000 at the Phoenix Pride Festival and now hangs in the Smithsonian Museum.
Helms’ design features blue and pink stripes at the top and bottom of the flag, with one white stripe in the middle. The light blue and pink, traditionally associated with baby boys and girls, represent people who identify as man or woman regardless of what gender they were assigned at birth. The white stripe in the middle represents people who are transitioning, or who do not identify on the male/female binary.
TRANS PRIDE FLAG-INSPIRED WEDDING IDEAS
The most beautiful part of this flag is the fact that it is intentionally symmetrical—no matter which way it’s hung, it’s right. There’s no right or wrong way to hang the flag, just as there’s no right or wrong way to express gender identity.
