Lacey and Steven’s Emotional Expecting Session

The road to parenthood can take many forms: conception, surrogacy, adoption. Sometimes the journey is easy, sometimes there are struggles.

Lacey and Steven tried to conceive for five years, and after another year of failed treatments, they decided to adopt. And it was then that little Jace was brought into their lives. For their expecting session, they shared their process — the ups and the downs — on chalkboard signs and Crystal Reyns Photography captured moments of the couple excitedly placing their hands on the birth mother's growing belly (her identity hidden).

“My husband and I tried for 5 years and this fell in our laps so we were so excited and blessed,” Lacey says. “It's surprising how much love you can have for this small little person who you did not even give birth to!”

This side of TTC is too often hidden behind closed doors, forcing those who are in the same boat to feel alone, or feel that they can only confide in their partner. What I love most about this shoot (and what strikes a personal chord with me) … not only did this couple share their journey but they made it part of the narrative that led them to their son, Jace, and we couldn't be happier for them.
