Phuket Wedding Featuring Vibrant Tropical Florals & Drag Queens

When it comes to destination weddings that feel deeply personal, effortlessly stylish, and entirely unforgettable, Lio and Lukas’s celebration in Phuket sets the bar. Their November wedding was more than a beautiful event -– it was a vibrant, multi-day experience rooted in culture, connection, and nearly twelve years of love.

As a proud gay wedding, every detail reflected who they are, where they’ve been, and the life they’ve built together, resulting in a celebration that felt equal parts meaningful and wildly fun.

Lio and Lukas first met while studying hospitality management at the prestigious École hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland. What began as a natural connection quickly deepened.

“The first impression was immediate — Lio stood out as whip-smart, articulate, and quietly magnetic,” says Lukas. “And Lukas stood out for his charisma and warmth,” adds Lio.

Their journey wasn’t without its challenges. After graduation, long distance tested their relationship as their careers took them to different cities, until they reunited in London a year and a half later. “From that point on, it just worked and it has never stopped working.”

And when it came time to get married, their approach was refreshingly honest.

“There was no dramatic proposal moment … it was simply a shared knowing, a mutual clarity that this was it, that it had always been heading here,” they explain. “No grand gesture needed. We had already built a life together, and the wedding was about celebrating that journey with the people who matter most to us.”

On choosing Phuket as the place to exchange vows, they say, “We wanted a destination that would ask something of our guests: a real commitment to be there, not just a casual RSVP.”

With ties to Southeast Asia, not to mention Lio’s heritage, the couple chose COMO Point Yamu Phuket for its breathtaking setting overlooking Phang Nga Bay and its ability to reflect the surrounding culture.

“It was important to us that the wedding felt connected to its surroundings rather than existing in a generic ‘destination wedding’ bubble,” they explain of their choice.

Set against the Andaman Sea, their ceremony was as intentional as it was stunning. In a meaningful break from tradition,” “We walked down the aisle together — no separate entrances, no ‘who gives this person away’ — just the two of us, side by side, which felt right given we have been together for almost 12 years.” Twelve of their closest friends walked ahead of them, followed by their mothers, creating a moment that felt both communal and deeply personal.

Surrounded by lush tropical florals — white orchids, birds of paradise, and vibrant greenery — the setting felt like a living garden.

Their Bird of Eden theme was a celebration of place and heritage. Inspired by southern Thailand and Lio’s Peranakan culture, their palette featured rich tones of raspberry, mustard, orange, and tropical greens brought to life through bold, textural florals.

If the ceremony was heartfelt, the reception was pure joy.

From thoughtful nods to heritage to playful surprises, every detail was designed to delight including Peranakan-inspired plates at each place setting, coconut desserts served during cocktail hour, hand fans for guests in the tropical heat, and breathtaking canopy of fairy lights over dinner. As for the favors, “hangover pills, rehydration sachets, Thai snacks and herbal inhalers and … branded condoms with our faces on them. That got a reaction,” they laugh.

Their first dance to II Most Wanted by Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus set the tone, but then came in the party. “We flew in three drag queens from Bangkok. They performed and completely brought the house down.”

With a high-energy set from DJ Groove and unforgettable performances by stars from RuPaul’s Drag Race Thailand, the dance floor stayed packed all night. “It was joyful, chaotic, and unforgettable.”

“Seeing all of our closest friends together in one place was overwhelming in the best way. Looking around during the party and realizing that every single person there was exactly where they were meant to be.”
