Washington State Forest Elopement

A Magical Elopement in a Moss-Covered Forest

Instead of spending money on a venue or a DJ, Heather and Jeremy splurged on a camper and hit the road toward Washington's coast with their 19-month-old son and two dogs. “We decided to have an elopement style wedding because we wanted to make our ceremony super romantic and intimate and we knew we wanted to go on an adventure to get there,” says Heather.

Having grown up in Oregon, Heather's only request was that they had a backdrop of lush, tall trees. Their two-and-half-week road trip led them to Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. “We spent a few days there driving around and exploring, looking for the perfect spot. We literally found the spot the morning of our ceremony!” exclaims the bride.

Their nontraditional ceremony was officiated by Jeremy's stepson from a previous marriage, while his daughter did Heather's hair. “We really wanted Jeremy’s older stepson Cole to be bonded forever to us and to forever be our son, and Ottis’s big brother. That was a really important dynamic that we wanted to have happen. And to bond his daughter to me and her little brother, too!”

A bouquet was purchased at a nearby supermarket before they started their trek through the forest. Towering trees and moss-covered rocks set an unbelievably romantic setting, as Cole guided Jeremy and Heather in a hand-tying ceremony. Just as their hands were tied, little Ottis started to get fussy. “Trying to juggle a baby while tied was very entertaining!” laughs Heather. “He ended up in my arms and started biting my shoulder which turned our ceremony into a silly time. Then our two dogs started wrestling in my dress and in the middle of us so then it turned silly chaos … and I swear the wind picked up at the same time!” Beautiful chaos is just the epitome of happily ever after, don't you think?

Afterwards they headed to the beach to celebrate with Patron shots and beer, stopping along the path so that Heather could nurse her sweet boy in the middle of Mother Nature.
